good times, good times. thanks to goldeneye i can't play any fps on the console that doesn't use it's weird control scheme. apparently some games have it, naming it 'legacy'.
one more topic to go till i'm done with history. i'm still not sure about this subject. it seems to be a mix of fact-memorising, the usual argument-analysis from sec school and jc, and spewing bullshit. i'm taking it like lit, memorise generalities and one or two pertinent facts, and dive in full auto bullshit. don't know how much i can crap on an empty stomach, though.
anything but
4.33am so i'm still not done with history. test's tomorrow.
i think i'm going crazy

2.26pm yesterday i was in an l4d2 game. a singaporean called his team mate an idiot for shooting the 'carrosine can' at their feet.
singaporeans on the internet. fucking fuckwits.
i spat on them both and they died in my green acid.
i'm so tuff.
technically yesterday

Wednesday, November 25, 2009
9.25pm yay that test is over. i far from aced it, but can safely say i probably bravo'd it. at the very least, a strong charlie. won't foxtrot. hopefully.
history of modern architecture next tuesday, and it's over. i need to find a meaningful way to spend december. i believe exercise is in there somewhere.
watching the 20th century boys movie now. suspension of disbelief is much harder for live action. it all seems silly. ruins naoki urasawa's storytelling. seriously, what's up with the zoom shots, japanese director guy? this isn't a fucking daytime variety show.
what am i doing
2.39am need to get to sleep. a dvd rip of summer wars finally surfaced recently. with korean subs, hardsubbed in avi format, what's up with that. but anyway. i had to close it 15 minutes in, this is something i need to enjoy when i actually have time that shouldn't be spent on studying. i also downloaded the 20th century boys movies that had subs. amazing stuff, follows the manga almost frame for frame.
also i finally have new music to listen to, it's (surprise surprise) japanese technopop girl group. beautiful. it's like sedatives for my brain, thinking anything other than silly, shallow thoughts is impossible.
anyway, drifting around from their wiki page, i got to another japanese technopop band, yellow magic orchestra. random words again? well, there's "orchestra" in there... and... yellow? but anyway, to my surprise, the name of one of their singles jumped out at me because it was the ending song to an anime a few months back, nothing particularly noteworthy, but the song was catchy.
it was in fact a cover, and the original was by three guys. the title, '君に胸キュン', roughly means 'my chest goes kyun for you', where kyun is like onopotatopeaia for tightening. sung by three guys.
night before the second
1.57am the first test was underwhelming. a fraction of a fraction of what i studied came out.
possibly, then, i might be inclined to feel less stessed about this next exam, but i don't think that'll work. monday's test was maths stuff. if they 20% of the cirriculum comes out, it's the starting 20%, the super basic shit. tomorrow's test is IDEAS AND APPROACHES TO DESIGN, which sounds like a bullshit-centric subject, but not with questions like:
1. Who is the director of and who is the person featured in “Notebook on Cities and Clothes”? (10) 2. Which are the two cities that form the location in “Notebook on Cities and Clothes”? (5) 3.What is the significance of these two cities? (10)
20% could come from any fucking place, blindsiding me like some sort of fucking invisble... ...thing. it's 2am and i need to save my creative juices for tomorrow.
what the hell is up with questions like that? 15 marks for four names.. and 10 marks for an essay. giveaway marks? as if, if i can't answer question 2 then there goes question 3.
if there's one exam i might fail, it's tomorrow's.

GCE 'A' LEVEL GENERAL PAPER NOVEMBER 2006PAPER 1 Answer one question from this Paper. Answers should be between 500 and 800 words in length
1.Is there still a place for charity in today’s world? 2.‘A picture is always more powerful than mere words.’ What is your view? 3.Does modern technology always improve the quality of people’s lives? 4.‘National boundaries make little geographical or economic sense nowadays.’ Discuss. 5.Should crimes that were committed many years ago simply be forgotten? 6.How far is your country prepared for future crisis? 7.‘The world would be a better place if everyone spoke the same language.’ Discuss. 8.To what extent do young people in your society take an interest in politics? 9.‘Entrepreneurship is just another name for personal greed.’ How far do you agree with this statement? 10.Do myths and legends still have a role to play in Singapore? 11.‘Women will never enjoy the same rights as men.’ Do you agree? 12.To what extent do the newspapers and magazines that you read deal with what is trivial, rather than what is important?
why am i posting this? tomorrow's exam is my structural systems exam, it's formulas and shit.
ah, GP. if every exam were like GP. i still remember anxious urgings to READ THE NEWSPAPER EVERY DAY YOU NEED TO KNOW CURRENT AFFAIRS FOR GP give me question 2. bullshit all the way. all the fucking way.
night before
12.15am i don't think i've ever studied as little for an exam before.
i've logged 25.5 hours on l4d2 alone. i'm 100% sure i've spent less time studying.
the last 'exam' i took was my driving test, and the waiting stress almost killed me. i'm severely out of practice for this sort of thing. and it's also my first time taking exams in uni. out of practice and no experience...
let's see how this goes.

3.33pm five campaigns down, finally.
playing online is a bitch because of all the noobs. sometimes i can't tell if they're noobs or griefers; how ridiculously badly they play.
so i screwed up, got the timezones wrong, l4d2 is coming out an hour earlier than i expected.
i expected 2pm
the game's not out.
so it's overdue!
go valve!
damn!

11.59pm fourteen hours and one minute to go.
i just spent 50 bucks at kino today. i come home to find an email saying they've got a 20% christmas discount starting in three days.
so i finally made that library trip. planned to get a lift home from waileong. i got there at 10am. waileong's exam finished at 10pm. i seriously overestimated my time-wasting skills. mostly because i didn't have my computer.
thirteen hours and fifty nine minutes to go.
oh fuck

3.47pm what a load of bullcrap i'm still at home i woke up at 2pm
okay, tomorrow. no school. better get to the library early before all the other people rushing to study. 10am. on the dot. righto.
so, i forgot to blog about this. last friday, went out for dinner with my father at raffles hotel. drove out the the city at dinnertime, on a friday night. oh boy, that'll be fun. still don't have my little triangles. 5 minutes in i realise i don't have my wallet, ergo, i don't have my liscense. we reach the city and see traffic police fucking everywhere. no, not fucking everywhere, you know what i mean. but anyway, apec's in town, traffic redirecting, confusion on the roads, wtf. that was fun. the dinner was awesome, btw.
what am i wasting my hdd space and my life on
12.50am so i'm watching this anime, kampfer. it's ranma and dnangel and dna2 but even trashier.
so there's guy A. who turns into girl A to take part in some stupid magical fighting tournament or some shit, who gives a shit. so, guy A turns into girl A. guy A likes girl B. girl B likes, read carefully, girl A. girl A joins guy A's school as a girl, somehow the remaining female population is also lesbian for him/her too. girl C, student president, cooks up a story about guy A and girl A going out. girl B catches guy A with girl D in compromising fell-down-on-top-of-each-other position, assumes guy A is cheating on girl A. vows to win girl A from guy A.
this is really trash. not even code geass-quality trash, which was high budget and meant to be trashy. this is just trash.
but i seem to be watching anime again. what other trash am i watching?
darker than black 2. the reason i watched Léon. just replace jean reno with a chinese electric batman and natalie portman with a pink-haired magical girl who spawns a antiquated anti-tank rifle out of her necklace. and there's a talking flying squirrel. yup. oh, dtb. you used to be a decent, high-budget episodic anime with slick animation and interesting characters. well, okay, characters are still somewhat interesting, but mr protoganist has gone the way of pheonix wright and simon from ttgl, he's now a hobo. what's up with japan and hobos? like that annoying kid from mahoromatic too. worst ending ever. there must be some other way you can show Men in Despair, besides having them dress in rags and forget to shave.
a certain scientific railgun. seems to be word salad but it's thanks to being a spin-off from To aru majutsu no index, which translates to A certain magical index. the first one, which was one of the few anime in recent memory that i actually watched and enjoyed, was about ESP and shit and super broken superbosses with superpowers being beaten by kid with power-cancelling power. a carbon copy of mxo guy, may his soul rest in peace in cancelled-manga heaven. this new series takes a side character who was almost taking over the the whole show and gives her another series, with random side characters to form another formulaic quartet of schoolgirls. i'll still eat that shit up, though. first season got me. attach me to the characters and i'm stuck for life.
oh, and hellsing ova 5 and 6 popped up without me noticing. i say popped up, but it was in like half a year, and i just wasn't paying attention. anyway, way to piss me off, stopping right before seras goes apeshit. i've given up on getting that figure. sigh.
oh, and lastly. i forgot to blog on why i managed to start anime again. after being burned out on all the trash that's out there, i was worried i'd never be able to enjoy anime again. so i decided to go for something tested and true, and if i still couldn't enjoy that, then my brain was broken and i could delete all my hentai. i decided to watch ghibli. i still haven't watched howl's, so that was a place to start. and, lo and behold, it was awesome. not one of miyazaki's stronger works, his worst i've seen, in fact, but still miles ahead of anything else. breath of fresh air. then i watched ponyo, but i stopped halfway because i was in school doing a project on the side, and i didn't want anyone to see my crying little girly tears. i switched over to whisper of the heart, a lesser known ghibli film revolving around the song 'country road'. it was awesome too.
ah, country roads. heard it on the office, in a hilarious bit, but the song was still great. i've downloaded taylor swift, that's american country, it was cute. i've downloaded kate rusby thanks to gunnerkrigg, that's bristish folk, it was mindblowing. maybe i should look into stuff besides jap stuff once in a while, eh?
banjos are awesome.
here's the scene from the office. man, isn't that guy at the end just the worst? he should just get the hell out.
okay

9.39pm i know when my exams are. i don't have much time. i haven't done any work since thursday. i was going to start yesterday. then i was going to start today. instead i spent the day on the steam forums and wikipedia and other places. and i downloaded and watched Léon. strange how violence and pedophilia, which are so common in anime, seem a whole lot worse in a western setting.
so yeah. really. for the past two days i've slacked while trying to start studying. now i'm going to slack to the max and get it out of my system (ha, as if that ever works.)
tomorrow i'm going to wake up early, take a train down to bugis, and go to nlb and borrow the stupid books that i need to read. stupid design books. so fucking ex.
whaaaat
12.35pm i wake up to find that l4d2 xbox 360 has been leaked. watching some guy's stream of him playing it.
oh, yuck

4.04pm so free. i should study. i went to school today to hand up my portfolio for sem 1. i decided to go to the library on the way back to borrow a book i need to read. i checked nlb's catalogue before i left, yay it's still Not On Loan at the bishan branch, like it was last night. i take the 1.5hr bus ride down, and reach the library. i go to the terminal to check the call number, and find out it's In Transit Awaiting Reservation or something. FUCK this is just like that time i went to the nus library to borrow a book. only that time i checked the catalogue in my studio, and 10 minutes later it was missing when i got to the library. kinda pissed. so to make the trip not a big waste, i went and bought a bunch of snacks. more chips. i can't find tyrell's any more, that sucks. did i buy them at bishan last time? i can't remember.
l4d2 on tuesday at 2. so gym freaks become tanks, emo chicks become witches, fatties become boomers, sporty types become hunters, smokers become dead from cancer. who becomes the new infected? for the charge, most likely this guy. seriously freaky.
1.19pm so i tried my pre-university-half-a-year-slack-time ritual of lunch and mythbusters at 1pm again. just for old times sake. i flipped on the tv again, jamie and adam are sinking themselves in a car to see if its possible to open the door against water pressure. apparently jamie's a qualified diver and shit so he used a rebreather and acted as the backseat observer. adam went nuts in the driver's seat and technically died before he could open the door, because he ran out of breath and had to use the oxygen tank. that was the first part of the show. next we move on to the other three, who are trying to prove you can fold a piece of paper more than seven times. life on the B-team. must be sad to know you're half-bit hangers-on who get all the boring experiments.
so yeah i stopped watching. i could start on those past year papers. i could.
i don't know why i leave the internet
12.48pm free on a tuesday. i turn on the tv and channel surf till i see a bollywood film where some indian guy is beating up the undertaker. one google later, i have a youtube link.
and i've found some past year papers for my structural systems module. who knew, every module's papers are online? perhaps a lot of people. the questions are secondary school standard stuff. i'm not saying it's easy, you could hand me my sec 2 physics exams and i'd be stumped.
soooo freeeee

2.37pm no more studio sessions for the sem
home on a monday afternoon
i could study. i could.
thangs
2.54am
a week+ left to go. left 2 go.
so much i could blog about. stuff happened. i forget.
my final crit session for semester 1 was up there. nailed it. spot on. tutors: "we have nothing to say. you may go." that sounds bad, but it means there was no need to defend my ideas to the tutors. it was, in fact, not a crit at all.
so, no more studio for... dunno how long. i really should figure out my school schedule.
i need to start figuring out how to start figuring out what to study for my structural systems and history of architecture modules. you may think this is because i haven't gone to any lectures in the past month or two, but that is Not So, because they were humongous wastes of time. i need to find a past year paper or some shit.
i'm learning japanese from my ds. great plan. i started it up and i saw cheats for the game preloaded into the R4. seriously? cheating at a game like this? this isn't homework, ffs. so i took the startup test and got bumped to level 6, where i'm getting owned by kana. why am i learning hiragana first? i thought katakana was easier. the game is stupid and imbalanced. i mean, さ and ち ? different consonant sound, different vowel sound. maybe they'll nerf it in a patch.
torchlight was fun for a short while. no rogue archetype makes me sad and the skill system is severely limited. battles are not complex at all. maybe i'm too used to wow. item grinding was fun for awhile, but, as with many games, it all boils down to seeing a bunch of numbers get higher and higher. and the cheats came in. i'll probably keep it around, at least till the editor program comes out. i'm at least semi-proficient in sketchup now, so i'll try my hand at some weapon design. and i'm going to be awesome at it, quit school, and go work for blizzard.
ah, l4d2. i await. in addition to the baseball bat i got for preordering, i get to wear bill's beret in tf2. hurray. look at those marketing shenanegans. and i got 10% off, but i still paid 62 sgd, and that's a lot. oh, and a few days around halloween, tf2 was selling on steam for USD2.50. damn. that's crazy.
mardiana's in the paper.

2.52am jorb's done
imagine, i could have finished this on saturday and had today to relax in peace. instad of, you know, relaxing in tension. you know what i mean. and my studiomates call me hardworking. pfft. i'm a lazy bastard, thanks, i just happen to like all the arts and crafts, that's why i do it so fast.
this essay's due friday though. not tomorrow. ...so yeah, spoiling market there.
tomorrow's gonna be a busy day though, rushing the work that's due wednesday. gotta draw that shit i was talking about. plan, elevation, section, axonometric of my stick and string and brick. i could have done it over the weekend, but the thing's in school and i'm too LAZY to go all the way down. look at the thing. it looks considerably more polished after i snipped off the edges and trimmed the string, but still. damn. i'm actually proud of my work this time.
ooooh uuuurgh
12.20am 944 words i blogged a while back about missing academic stuff i'm sated now give me more arts and crafts agian
when i'm watching stupidstuff in the background i can only multitask with my hands can't fucking write oh man probably gonna spend tomorrow overnight in school drawing stuff
1.01am still haven't written any more. how on earth... i blame nph
